Best Change Ever!
This is how I learned to read and spell. It was the foundation of my own literacy and the key to my lifelong love of learning.
As a previous Title I Reading Teacher, I have used this same approach with students and seen proven results again and again. It works—not because it’s trendy, but because it’s grounded in how the brain actually learns to read.
This method isn’t new. For years, many educators moved away from this structured, systemic approach—and we’ve watched literacy rates suffer as a result. Now, the “science of reading” has become a buzzword, reintroducing phonics to the classroom as if it were something new.
But this system—the Orton phonogram approach—has stood the test of time. In my opinion, it remains the best there is for unlocking literacy, building confidence, and giving every child the tools to succeed.
If your child hasn’t learned the 70 Orton Phonograms, they’re missing the foundation every fluent reader depends on. Without it, they risk falling further behind—academically and emotionally.
You don’t have to let that happen.
This isn’t just another reading program. It’s the best investment of your time and money—because it gives your child the gift of literacy, confidence, and a brighter future.
Month 1–2: Introduction Phase
Your child is introduced to all 70 phonograms.
Lessons focus on recognition, sound-symbol connections, and handwriting practice.
Expect your child to begin reading simple words and patterns.
Month 3–4: Building Confidence
Daily lessons and practice reinforce the 70 phonograms.
Your child begins applying phonograms to spelling, dictation, and short reading passages.
Errors decrease as consistency improves.
Month 5–6: Fluency Development
Phonograms are becoming automatic.
Your child can decode unfamiliar words and write with greater accuracy.
Reading and journaling become more independent.
Month 7–9: Application & Mastery
Your child is now using the 70 phonograms naturally in both reading and writing.
Growth is charted through fluency checks and written work.
Confidence and independence are noticeable at school and home.
Month 10–12: Full Integration
The 70 phonograms are fully mastered and automatic.
Your child reads with fluency and comprehension and writes with clarity and accuracy.
This foundation supports all future learning across subjects.
