Enforceable Statements: Establishes clear, consistent limits that educators can realistically maintain.

Choices Within Limits: Shares appropriate control with students while preserving adult authority and expectations.

Student Problem-Solving: Guides students to own their problems, consider consequences, and develop workable solutions.

Instead of defining a young person by a disability label or immediately stepping in to rescue them—because doing everything for students is a remarkably efficient way to teach helplessness—this Love and Logic program helps adults recognize individual strengths, maintain healthy “can-do” expectations, and build greater independence.

The four training sessions are:

Understanding Unique Needs and Gifts: Recognizes that every young person is different, looks beyond labels, reaches academically discouraged learners, begins relationships positively, and responds thoughtfully to difficult questions.

Maintaining Healthy “Can-Do” Expectations: Teaches essential daily-living and success skills, including cooperation, making appropriate requests, encouraging others, and using healthy coping strategies.

Developing Positive Parent-Teacher Relationships: Builds productive partnerships through empathy, collaborative problem-solving, messages of capability, and the P.A.R.E.N.T.S. process.

Reaching Discouraged and Resistant Learners: Uses the One-Sentence Intervention, “accidental skill-building,” and effort-based feedback to help reluctant learners experience authentic success.

Our Love and Logic: Adults Supporting Youth with Special Needs® professional development equips educators, parents, mental health professionals, and other support providers with practical strategies for helping youth become more capable, resilient, and self-reliant. Through video instruction, readings, structured discussion, group activities, and between-session application, participants learn how to look beyond labels, communicate capability, strengthen parent-school partnerships, teach coping and daily-living skills, and reach discouraged learners. This work supports consistent adult responses, stronger relationships, healthier expectations, and sustainable growth at school, at home, and in the community.

Important prerequisite: This is an advanced Love and Logic program. Participants should already have a solid understanding of the Love and Logic approach and should have completed a previous Love and Logic course.
